Do More Than Expected

1 September 2008 No Comment

In today's society, changes are inevitable - improvements in technology, changes in your career and responsibilities at work.

Less than 10 years ago, as long as you did what your customer expects you to, you would be in good business. But in today's society, if you did just as what you're expected, you would still be in business, but barely making money. You'd be struggling in your business. Why?

Because in order to succeed in your business today, you must exceed your customer's needs and expectations. That's why most companies are gearing beyond just meeting their customers' expectations.

10 years ago, if you were selling computers, when a customer purchases one of it, all you'll need to do is just deliver it on time. If you're able to meet the delivery time, you would be deemed as ‘trustable' and you can expect your business brand to spread from word of mouth.

But today, if you were just to deliver the computer on time, it's very unlikely that your business would be a major success. Why? Simply because any other of your competitors can do the same!

So how can you experiences significant success in your business? Again, it boils down into these 4 words: Do more than expected.

Just look at the computer manufacturing and selling company, Dell. How did they become one of the top computer selling corporations in the world and survive in one of the most competitive market? Check this out.

If you were to purchase a computer from them, they'll not only promise you prompt delivery. Instead, they'll add in so much value-added ‘bonuses' they would make you seem dumb not to purchase a computer from them. Look at this example that I got from Dell's website:

You may just be looking for a basic computer that would allow you to type documents, create powerpoint presentation slides or surf the internet. But at Dell, you get a lot more than you expect.

Come on. Who minds having free upgrades of computer parts without paying more?

By following the simple principle of ‘giving more than what the customer expects', Dell is one of the biggest computer selling and manufacturing player in it's industry.

Now think about it. How can you apply this principle into your life so that you can experience even more success in your business or career?

At the same time, feel free to post some examples of how you think some individuals and corporations have used this principle to experience success in their own field in the comments at the bottom of this page.

By doing so, you can help other readers understand better on how they too, can apply the ‘Do More than Expected' principle into their lives or business.
