'I can't do it', 'I hate to do this', 'I'll just try my best. If I can't do it then let's just forget about it.'

Well, heard of all these before? If you start paying attention to all these sentences, you will be surprised to realize that most people around us speak in that manner.

Personally in the army, I hear that almost everyday when I hang around with those platoon mates who are physically weaker. When they are participating in SOC or the usual Physical Training (PT), I would always hear them complaining and explaining why they can 'never' complete the exercises or the obstacle.

Now, does it mean that I do not hang around those people who are less positive than I am? Of course not! At the same time, I do make sure that I restrict the amount of time I spend hanging around them. Why? Because the more I hang out with them, the more likely it is that I will adopt the same limiting beliefs that they have.

Our mind is just like a sponge. If we soak ourselves among negativity, it will be a matter of time before we soak up those limiting beliefs and attitude.

So what if we have family members who are less positive in their thinking? Do we need to restrict the time we spend with them as well? In this case, you might want to spend quality time with them instead of the long hours. Love them and at the same time, realize that you need to maintain a positive outlook of life.
